Washington State University Construction Management: Building Industry Leaders Through ACCE-Accredited Excellence
The construction industry continues to face growing demand for highly skilled professionals who can successfully manage complex projects, lead diverse teams, and navigate rapidly evolving technologies. As employers seek graduates who are prepared to contribute from day one, Washington State University’s (WSU) Construction Management Program has established itself as one of the premier educational pathways for developing the next generation of construction leaders.
At the center of the program’s success is its Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, an ACCE-accredited degree that combines academic rigor, industry engagement, and practical experience to prepare graduates for impactful careers across the built environment.
A Legacy of Excellence at Washington State University
Founded in 1890 as Washington’s land-grant university, Washington State University has spent more than a century advancing education, research, and public service. Today, WSU is recognized as a leading public research institution with a strong commitment to workforce development and industry collaboration.
Within WSU’s School of Design and Construction, the Construction Management Program reflects the university’s mission by providing students with a transformative educational experience that integrates technical knowledge, leadership development, and industry engagement. The program has earned a reputation for producing graduates who are highly sought after by employers throughout the Pacific Northwest and across the nation.
To meet the growing demand for highly skilled construction professionals and to build upon this legacy of excellence, the Construction Management program is strategically expanding its capacity. Through a phased approach, the program is increasing student enrollment while continuing to invest in faculty with significant industry experience to support its hands-on, experiential curriculum. This intentional growth will enable the program to admit approximately 75 students annually over the next three years and 100 students annually over the next five years, further strengthening its ability to deliver well-prepared graduates ready to contribute to the industry from day one.

The Bachelor of Science in Construction Management
WSU’s Bachelor of Science in Construction Management is a four-year degree program that combines foundational coursework with advanced professional education. Students develop expertise in construction methods, project planning, estimating, scheduling, building systems, safety management, and business operations while gaining a deep understanding of the materials and processes that shape the built environment.

A distinctive feature of the program is its emphasis on emerging industry technologies. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is integrated throughout the curriculum, ensuring graduates are prepared to leverage digital construction tools that are increasingly critical to project success. Faculty members bring substantial industry experience to the classroom and continuously collaborate with construction professionals to align coursework with current workforce needs and market trends.
The result is a curriculum that balances theory and application, producing graduates who understand both the technical and managerial dimensions of construction projects.
The Value of ACCE Accreditation
One of the strongest indicators of program quality is WSU’s accreditation through the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The Bachelor of Science in Construction Management is fully accredited by ACCE, the leading accrediting body for construction education programs.

ACCE accreditation signifies that a program has undergone a rigorous evaluation process and meets established standards for curriculum quality, faculty qualifications, student outcomes, continuous improvement, and industry relevance. ACCE’s mission is to promote, support, and accredit quality construction education programs while serving as a global advocate for excellence in construction education.
For students and employers alike, ACCE accreditation provides confidence that graduates have completed a program aligned with industry expectations and best practices. For recruiters, it serves as an important benchmark indicating that candidates have received an education designed to meet the evolving demands of the construction profession.
Industry Advisory Board: A Strategic Advantage
A key strength of the WSU Construction Management Program is its strong relationship with industry stakeholders through its Industry Advisory Board.
The Advisory Board serves as a critical bridge between academia and industry, providing guidance on curriculum development, emerging trends, workforce needs, and professional competencies. Through active engagement with construction executives, project managers, contractors, and industry leaders, the program maintains a direct connection to the realities of modern construction practice.
This partnership creates significant benefits for students and employers:
Curriculum remains aligned with current industry expectations.
Students gain exposure to real-world challenges and opportunities.
Industry professionals contribute expertise, mentorship, and guest instruction.
Internship and employment pipelines are strengthened.
Program improvements are informed by employer feedback and market trends.
The impact of a strong advisory board extends beyond curriculum enhancement. It fosters a culture of continuous improvement and accountability that aligns closely with ACCE’s commitment to industry engagement and educational excellence. By ensuring that academic outcomes reflect professional expectations, the Advisory Board helps produce graduates who are workforce-ready and capable of contributing immediately upon entering the industry.
